Want to read up on some of the pros and cons of ceramic braces and Invisalign? Before consulting with your local orthodontist, you can start here:
Everyone feels better with a beautiful smile. However, sometimes obtaining that smile involves orthodontic treatment. At first glance, Invisalign aligners are clear and less noticeable than ceramic braces. Because of this, Invisalign aligners can be favored by adult patients. Ceramic braces are made to match the color of your teeth, but the thin wire connecting the ceramic brackets can still be visible to the naked eye.
The time wearing Invisalign or ceramic – clear braces is 100% patient dependent. Factors that are considered in the treatment time are: how complex is the treatment, and what are the goals of the patient. On average, if you wear your Invisalign aligners for 22-24 hours a day, you can expect treatment to last 10-18 months. This treatment time is similar to ceramic-clear braces.
However, if you need to straighten significantly crooked teeth, your orthodontist may recommend ceramic-clear braces as the best treatment choice. Some orthodontic needs require the strength of ceramic-clear or metal braces over plastic alignment trays (Invisalign).
If you’re looking for the more affordable orthodontic treatment option, you may want to consider ceramic – clear braces. Invisalign tends to be a larger investment when considering treatment options, costing about $500 – $1000 more than ceramic- clear braces. However, this is not always the case and for some patients Invisalign treatment may be less expensive. Many orthodontic offices offer treatment payment plans, so do not be dissuaded by the potential higher cost of Invisalign.
Ceramic braces usually require patients to visit the office every 6 weeks to adjust the wires and braces, while those with Invisalign alignment trays may visit every 6-12 weeks. As Invisalign treatment is determined by 3D technology, trays are changed every 1-2 weeks at home and require less orthodontist visits.
While wearing ceramic braces it is recommended you stay aware from hard and sticky foods that may disrupt bracket and wire placement. In contrast, it’s easy for Invisalign patients to take the trays out whenever they eat and drink. Still want to eat those sticky sweets? It’s no problem with Invisalign – just make sure to brush before you put the trays back in!
